Globalized economy the "net" result

We are now in a situation where the entire economy has changed based on the Internet. Sounds obvious, yet again many companies want to do business using the same methods that have worked since the beginning of time.

Those methods will not work the same any longer. The principals of good business are the same, but it is up to innovators in the business world to align themselves with people- not companies, we're talking people here- who understand how to navigate this new market and the technologies which actually serve people in the way they need.

Here's a useful point in reflection:

There was a time your business needed an ad in the yellow pages to be anybody. You paid what the Big Yellow wanted because without it, you were nowhere. Now the same is true online. There will always be a place for face to face business, but the online world extends that and in some cases is required to keep that business afloat.

The advent of the interstate highway changed small towns forever. The advent of the information superhighway is changing ALL of business, and small business in particular. Recognize the pattern?

There are massive opportunities with the right investment of time and resources.

It is time to diversify and innovate. Notice that there are companies which are thriving even in this flagging economy. They have invested in sound business principles and exercise innovative vision- including heavy web applications and they collect people's attention and time as importantly as money.

The dot com crash was nothing compared with the crash of the financial markets in 2008 which took down an entire national economy, and it's true that even that still did not curtail online spending and growth ($2B in advertising redirected from "conventional" media to facebook alone in 2010).

In summary, the Net is changing everything from the demand for real-estate to babies' diapers now, and if you think that's funny you obviously haven't eaten your wiki's this morning.

Compass and Spear

Our sense of direction and appropriate action in a newly emerging market.

We used to call one of our internet marketing buddies "Compass and Spear" because he always provided a clear sense of direction and then backed it up with resolute action.

Now we've claimed the name for our own. Development of www.CompassAndSpear.com will not be immediately available, but it will be released with tons of info far ahead of the site that's planned in support of it.

Timeliness

The main reason to provide a venue for Technology Vision and Investment is just that. We talk about what's going on in the tech world all the time, and we wonder why more people don't share our vision.

What are the odds it is because there isn't a portal site to get people on board?

Compass and Spear is to become the main blog for StarLogic Systems and Bellasys Consulting Group.

It will also feature new business models, and turn-key business opportunities from seed concepts to actual plans and development strategies.

StarLogic Systems has several community projects worth looking into, because they serve a critically important sector of society: dyslexics. It is not realized commonly that dyslexics think in "3D" and have a more intelligent data-mapping structure than is realized by any scholastic curriculum. They are still treated as if impeded. Statistics are that 30% of business owners and entrepreneurs have limited to advanced dyslexia, and yet these are some of our most skilled leaders. One desired result in the next 5 years is to develop an international standard of visual symbols to codify webpages in various languages so that they may be "translated" automatically to symbolic and visual terms rather than text. While Text supports business needs, Symbolic interpretations serve globalized awareness and navigation of websites without restrictions based on language. StarLogic's position is to place a control in every browser which rotates between 3 modes: Standard, Text, and Symbol. Our logo looks curiously like Google Chrome's logo. I suppose it's obvious what to do with 3 parts and a button, right?

This is what we call Optik™ browser, and we have conceived it in honor of Thomax Hicks, one of the most brilliant men of our age who is served better by X-Box than any computer or mobile phone. In our opinion that is just wrong- and we have a solution. HTML 5 and emerging technologies will assist in the creation of the required components to help this solution reach beyond the prototypical stage.

As in real life our interests align with our strengths, and these are reflected in the quality businesses and products we are involved with. We enjoy a fascinating network of individuals and their products, services and value they present. Compass and Spear provides direction and allows action to be taken with these individuals and their companies. The site will provide access you can't ordinarily get, and our resources and mentoring community listen via our connection.

There are many reasons for us to review and organize content. Back in 2000 we realized that "content managers" or human content filters would be essential in the over-saturated-information-age. Beyond the communiations portal concept at Compass and Spear, there is another great reason we've geared up to produce. More about that after our initial topical menu.

The real reason behind the blog

We are plugged into powerful ideas constantly. Not all of them are great, not all of them are practical, and some of them we know are great but we're too late to begin developing. Of the best ideas we have, we can produce only 1 in every 4. That's 3 massive ideas left on the table every season.

So, we have arrived at the question- "how does it serve anyone to keep it to ourselves." So many things in the tech world are hush-hush because a company with enough money is only 6 months away from delivering any marketable idea.

Yet many of the companies who have that power seem like they're hovering around same-ol' same-ol' ...we're not going to name name's because we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

Now, we're not unrealistic. We know that a lot of research goes into figuring out how to make sure that men buy really expensive razor blades... and let's not even talk about the insanity of the pharm market. That may be good for world economy on some level. But we know that if things don't change- if people don't step up and DO something different we'll always be stuck with the same junk we have. How's that working for us?

Our action is aimed at solutions

Taking action looks like doing the work to express our ideas in a way that other business leaders can understand and hopefully adopt. If nothing else our ideas may influence others to take action, or somehow contribute to a project that others already have traction on.

Lastly, we think it's a smashing idea to expose some of our thinking so that we're more transparent as a company. Perhaps you'll get to know us and like us a little. No, really like us, not just facebook like us...

Our perspective is led by one who sits squarely between Baby Boomers and the new hopeful Gen-Y. Just old enough to understand the advent of the internet from a "classical" computer science perspective, and just young enough to understand social media and the new style of marketing. Just right for this time-frame, and yet our company looks to the future with classic sensibility. So we pose a question, and we think this is the question to ask at this time in history.

"Where are the visioneers of our time? Who is fulfilling the role of dreamer/actioner whose creativity captures the imaginations of generations and inspires them toward greatness? Everything seems very, very narrow these days, and while I love technology and I think it takes focus and drive to produce systems which truly serve humankind, and some of that is happening, I am tremendously concerned that we're all chasing the wrong tail."

Where is the Sci-fi of today?

Now that we all have "communicators" like Star Trek- a phenomenal achievement of business and science- Where is the Isaac Aasimov or even deeper into consciousness, the Aldous Huxley of our time? I could rattle off twenty names, but the point is very precise. So let's skip to its meaning:

Unless our culture begins to use the power of creativity and aspire to greatness in the sense of very fundamentally important things, such as our humanity itself, the environment, the sustainability of our way of living; and unless we stop choosing to repeat mistakes made each century 20 times that or more, we are going to create a technologically advanced dark age that will be as pointless to humanity as emotions are currently to machines themselves.

We have to find a voice amid this hyperdrive, and we can do that without losing any momentum on the pace we have. It's just a separate process, but one that is born from a stillness of mind rather than hyperactivity. We as humans need to find our center of balance, and to make decisions from that place. We can keep the same toys we have now. We just need to play with them differently.

Our strength is the place we vision from

We have realized that one of our gifts is the perspective we have falling squarely between classic computing and bleeding edge industry that is computing today. We vision from a place that is substantially technical and yet humano-centric. We know that our best ideas aren't even close to being supported in terms of today's technology. We also know that the driving force in technololgy today is Mobile, and we are building for its future as well as the needs of business leaders today.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for Compass and Spear.
